Sheriff: 2 pounds of pot found in I-26 traffic stop, 2 charged

ERWIN — An Interstate 26 traffic stop led Unicoi County deputies to arrest a Rogersville man and his passenger Saturday after about two pounds of marijuana were found in the vehicle.

Sheriff Mike Hensley reported that deputies stopped Roderick Dangelo Gray, 28, 181 Long Hollow Road, Rogersville, for speeding and light law violations and smelled marijuana coming from his vehicle.

Gray gave deputies consent to search the vehicle and admitted to having marijuana in the car, Hensley said. Deputies found about two pounds of "high grade" marijuana in the car, as well as scales, baggies and a vacuum sealer.

Both Gray and his passenger, Lowell G. Walson, 39, 657 Rocky Branch Road, Blountville, were charged with sale of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were released from the Unicoi County Jail on bond. Hearings were set for April 24 in Unicoi County Sessions Court.
