Freshman Jamin McCann pitched seven strong innings and the East Tennessee State offense rewarded the southpaw with a nine-run fifth inning, as the Bucs completed a sweep of North Florida with a 10-4 win in an Atlantic Sun Conference baseball game Sunday at Thomas Stadium.
McCann (3-3) held the Ospreys to one run on seven hits while striking out one and walking none. Offensively, the Bucs had four players register two-hit games, while five of their 11 hits went for extra bases — three doubles and two triples.
The Bucs (18-17 overall, 7-5 A-Sun) were led by their 7-8-9 hitters as Trey York, Zach Thompson and Gage Downey combined to go 6 for 9 with one double, one triple, one walk, four runs and four RBIs. York, who had a bases clearing double in the fifth, went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Downey was 2 for 2 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI, and Thompson filled in nicely for the injured Dylan Tritsch , going 2 for 3 with a walk, and scoring two runs. Clinton Freeman was the fourth Buccaneer to end with a multi-hit game as the senior slugger went 2 for 5 with a double, a triple, a run scored and an RBI.
Seven different players recorded hits for ETSU, which .336 in a 4-0 homestand.
UNF dipped to 15-21, 6-9. The Bucs won just their third series over UNF since joining the conference in 2006, while it was the second time in four seasons the Bucs have swept the Ospreys.comments powered by Disqus
