An official with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said construction along Interstate 26 could cause some delays and lane closures on through next week.

TDOT Community Relations Officer Mark Nagi said road crews would be blasting rock as construction along I-26 between Gray and Boones Creek continues.

On Friday afternoon, reports circulated of a rockslide along I-26 near the section of road that passes over Buckingham Road in Gray. Nagi said those reports were not based in fact, and that traffic was slowed and lanes were closed after crews worked to clean blasted rock from the road.

“They were blasting (Friday), I’m sure,” Nagi said. “And they will be next week.”

Nagi said he was unsure as to how much longer the blasting portion of the construction would continue, but that crews “will be next week,” as well.
