Teens arrested after Greene Co. killing to appear in South Carolina court

The four Tennessee teens who led police on a 10-hour chase last week are due in court in South Carolina.

Authorities say the teenagers are expected to appear before a judge in juvenile court today in Newberry County.

Police have said a 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and two 15-year-old boys fled Greene County, Tenn., after the 16-year-old killed his 36-year-old father.

Robert J. Blanchard, 36, was found dead around 11 p.m. Wednesday at his 3905 Snapps Ferry Road home.

Blanchard’s son, Zachary Blanchard, 16, and the three others reportedly fled Greene County in a stolen van bound for Myrtle Beach, S.C. They were arrested Thursday afternoon in Newberry County, S.C., about 40 miles from Columbia, S.C.

Those charged, and their charges, include:

  • Zachary Thomas Blanchard, one count of first-degree murder.
  • Daniel Allen Richards Birchfield Jr., one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.
  • Liam Michael Lawlor, one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.
  • Shelby Lynn Riley, one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.

  • Police have said the teens took at least eight guns from Greene County, Tenn. They also face accessory and theft charges.

Authorities have not given a timeline for the teens' extradition to Tennessee.
