Charges placed against teens in shooting

GREENEVILLE — Greene County officials placed charges Friday against four teenagers suspected in the shooting death of a Greeneville man.

Robert J. Blanchard, 36, was found dead around 11 p.m. Wednesday at his 3905 Snapps Ferry Road home.

Blanchard’s son, Zachary Blanchard, 16, and the three others reportedly fled Greene County in a stolen van bound for Myrtle Beach, S.C. They were arrested Thursday afternoon in Newberry County, S.C., about 40 miles from Columbia, S.C.

Those charged, and their charges, include:

• Zachary Thomas Blanchard, one count of first-degree murder.

• Daniel Allen Richards Birchfield Jr., one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.

• Liam Michael Lawlor, one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.

• Shelby Lynn Riley, one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft (through criminal responsibility) over $1,000 and less than $10,000.

Court dates have not been set for the four, who are awaiting extradition from South Carolina.
