Police: Vandalism suspect headbutts, threatens to kill Kingsport cop

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport police officer received "significant facial injuries" while arresting a vandalism suspect over the weekend, as the man allegedly headbutted and threatened to kill him, garnering felony charges.

According to Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton, the incident began with a Friday afternoon call at a Kingsport residence. The victim said her ex-husband had arrived and wanted custody of their child for the weekend, but his request was denied due to him having an outstanding warrant for failure to pay child support.

The suspect, Charles A. Samples, 29, of 1551 Waverly Road, allegedly became "enraged" and punched the woman's car several times, leaving a large dent in a rear quarter panel. He then left the home and was later located by police at his mother's residence.
