Man ejected from car while fleeing Sullivan County deputies

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop for a broken brake light, then forcing other motorists off the road before flipping his own vehicle.

The man ran from the crash scene and was apprehended after a brief foot chase, according to police, with marijuana later found in his possession.

A report at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says the incident began shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. A deputy in the 4200 block of Fort Henry Drive attempted to stop a 1992 Ford Fiesta due to a non-functional brake light.

The driver of the Ford, later identified as Charles White, 22, of 229 Warrior Drive, reportedly came to a brief stop and then accelerated away. Deputies say he continued westbound on Fort Henry and turned onto Colonial Heights Road, passing a pair of other vehicles on the double yellow line.
