The new student parking garage at East Tennessee State University will open Monday, March 31, for student use, officials announced today.
The 425,000-square-foot facility, located on the corner of State of Franklin Road and Jack Vest Drive, will provide over 1,200 spaces for students. Twenty-nine security cameras and 14 emergency phones have been installed and are now functional.
The offices which will be housed within the parking garage, including Public Safety and the Welcome Center, will remain closed until after the end of the spring semester in May. Likewise, the building’s food service facilities are still under construction.
Ground was broken for the $26.1 million facility in August 2012, and the majority of the funding comes from student fees. The four-level garage was designed by BarberMcMurry architects and built by Rentenbach Constructors Inc., both of Knoxville.
