KINGSPORT — Officials with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Johnson City Power Board say an equipment failure was to blame for a service outage early Wednesday that left more than 15,000 customers without power.
The failure occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at TVA's Boone switchyard, TVA spokesman Travis Brickey said.
"We had a 69 kilovolt switch fail at the Boone switchyard, and that's what caused the outage," Brickey said. "We rerouted power to Johnson City Power Board customers and they were without service for two hours and eight minutes."
Brickey said TVA had to "backfeed" electricity from other substations in the area in order to help restore service. The cause of the failure is still under investigation, Brickey said.comments powered by Disqus
