Man accused of burglarizing Johnson City apartment while residents slept

Ryan James Olaughlin

Some Austin Springs Road residents awoke early Sunday morning to find a man they knew burglarizing their apartment, resulting in his arrest, Johnson City police said.

Ryan James Olaughlin, 20, 399 ½ Woodlyn Road, was arrested after the incident at 293 Austin Springs Road, Apt. 46, just before 5 a.m. Sunday.

The residents told police they had been awakened by Olaughlin's presence in the apartment. They knew him, but he had not been invited in. Police learned that he had taken a screen from a window and entered the apartment without their knowledge. He had stolen several items and placed them outside the apartment to retrieve later, police said.

Police retrieved the items and returned them to the residents.

Olaughlin was charged with aggravated burglary and jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $20,000 bond. He is due in Sessions Court this afternoon.
