Anthony Lee Metcalf

Johnson City police saw a car nearly hit several pedestrians in downtown Johnson City, resulting in a traffic stopped that revealed illegal drugs in the driver's possession, police said Sunday.

Anthony Lee Metcalf, 19, 175 Rockingham Road, Gray, was arrested Sunday after the incident around midnight.

Police said officers saw a red Ford Focus almost strike numerous pedestrians crossing the crosswalk downtown on West State of Franklin near Spring Street.

After stopping the car, police found that Metcalf had Ecstasy and Xanax hidden on his person. They also said Metcalf was impaired on an unknown substance.

He was charged with possession with intent to sell a schedule I drug, simple possession of a schedule IV drug, reckless driving, driving under the influence, failure to yield, and violation of the implied consent law.

He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $14,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance Monday.
