J.C. police: Suspicious vehicle leads to drug arrest

A Johnson City man was arrested on drug charges Thursday afternoon following a traffic stop on a “suspicious vehicle,” according to a police department press release.

It happened around 4:40 p.m. when officers on the special investigation squad criminal interdiction team spotted a the vehicle at Alpine Package store on North Broadway Street. The press release did not indicate what drew officers attention to the vehicle, but when they approached it the driver sped away.

Officers found the vehicle later and the driver, Sherridan Ray Queen, 37, 410 Hamilton St., was arrested on charges of felony evading arrest, possession with intent to sell a schedule VI drug, felony reckless endangerment, simple possession of schedule III drugs and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

The charges resulted from a search of the vehicle and Queen during which officers found marijuana, hydrocodone pills, scales for measuring drugs and sandwich bags often used to package drugs for resale.

Queen was held on a $32,000 bond and will be arraigned on the charges this morning in Washington County General Sessions Court.
