Todd Hicks and Jamie Nunley
Police say a Johnson City man and woman were apprehended after initially escaping police after they allegedly stole a vehicle from an apartment complex.
A Johnson City Police Department news release said officers arrived at Cherry Hill Apartments, 1500 Bell Ridge Road, on Wednesday and learned two people had taken a 1990s Ford Explorer. The vehicle was seen by officers later in the day on the Milligan Highway, but they were unable to pull it over due to heavy traffic and its rate of speed.
The vehicle was located a short time later with help from deputies from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. Also located were Todd Hicks, 36, 527 Laurels Road, and Jamie Nunley, 25, 139 Cedar Grove Road, who had been the vehicle’s occupants. When officers spoke with Hicks and Nunley, they learned the Explorer had been returned due to fear of prosecution.
That didn’t apparently stop police from arresting the two and bringing them to the Washington County Detention Center. Hicks is being held on $6,000 bond and is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and a first offense of driving on a revoked license. Nunley was being held on $5,000 bond and is charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Both were scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Thursday.
