Man arrested after Kingsport assault, police pursuit and crash

Harley David Byington

KINGSPORT — A domestic assault in the bathroom and bar of a Kingsport restaurant spiraled into a pair of police pursuits on Wednesday, with a man eventually apprehended after he crashed into a tree along the Greenbelt several hours later.

Once taken to the hospital for treatment he incurred even more charges, according to police, as drugs were located hidden in an orifice of his body.

Harley David Byington, 43, of 330 Godsey Road, lot 21, Bristol, Tenn., faces a litany of charges, including aggravated assault, evading arrest and possession of drugs. Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton reports Byington and his ex-wife had appeared in Bristol court earlier in the day — in relation to a previous incident of domestic violence — with Byington later arriving at the woman's home.
