JC police find cocaine, ecstasy during traffic stop

A traffic stop early Tuesday led to a drug arrest by the Johnson City Police Department’s Special Investigation Squad, according to a department press release.

Officers observed a silver Nissan Murano speeding on westbound Interstate 26 near downtown Johnson City and pulled the driver over.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine.

Anthony Rutherford, 31, 908 Chadwick Dr. Clarksville, TN was arrested on charges of resale of schedule I, resale of schedule VI and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

Rutherford was transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $21,000.00 bond. He’s scheduled to be arraigned March 14 in General Sessions Court.
