Update: Knoxville man shot in downtown Johnson City

Police have released the name of a man shot late Thursday night in downtown Johnson City.

Dustin Gibson, 1515 Magnolia Ave., Knoxville, was found with a bullet wound at the Downtown Square Parking Lot, 150 W. State of Franklin Road, after he was shot around 11:30 p.m. in the breezeway between East Main Street and State of Franklin.

Witnesses told police Gibson and another person had gotten into a physical altercation when a firearm was drawn and fired, police said in a news release. Gibson was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

"It wasn't life threatening. He's in stable condition," Lt. Steve Sherfey said Friday morning. "The victim isn’t being very cooperative."

Investigators have leads in the case and are looking for witnesses.

"He probably knows who shot him," Sherfey said.

Johnson City police are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday night in a downtown breezeway.

Lt. Steve Sherfey said one man was shot at 150 W. State of Franklin and is in stable condition this morning. It happened around 11:30 p.m. in the breezeway between Main Street and State of Franklin, he said.

"It wasn't life threatening. He's in stable condition," Sherfey said. "The
victim isn’t being very cooperative."

Sherfey declined to release the victim's name.
