The Johnson City Police Department arrested two city men on robbery charges after officers said one of them admitted to his role in them.
On Tuesday, police arrested Jason L. Avery, 35, 883 W. Main St., and Rickey L. Greene, 34, 401 S. North St., in connection with two convenience store robberies - one which occurred at the Scotchman Market at 2300 S. Greenwood Drive, and the other at the Roadrunner/Sunoco convenience store at 1001 S. Roan St.
Police said a witness told them he or she had overheard Greene and Avery discussing the robberies. After locating Greene, police said, he confessed that he and Avery committed the robberies, with each man taking a turn robbing each store.
After the Scotchman robbery, which is alleged to have taken place at around 2:48 a.m., an employee told police she was in the stock room when a man entered, dragged her to the register by her arm, and demanded that she empty it. The clerk told police she gave the man around $50, then he left.
Almost three hours later, police responded to the second alleged robbery at Roadrunner. Police said the clerk told them a man came in, brandished a knife, and demanded money. The man, police said, then left the scene with "an undisclosed amount of cash."
According to police, Greene told them he used the knife to threaten the clerk at Roadrunner while Avery waited in the car. During the Scotchman robbery, police said, Greene told them he waited in the car while Avery did the deed.
Both men were charged with aggravated robbery, robbery, and theft under $500. They were taken to the Washington County Detention Center and were each being held on $61,000 bonds.
They will appear in Sessions Court Wednesday morning to face their respective charges.
