ETSU, Eastman Credit Union to make arts initiative announcement

East Tennessee State University and Eastman Credit Union have scheduled a press conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon for an announcement regarding the university's arts initiative.

The announcement will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the ECU branch at 421 N. State of Franklin Road adjacent to Fresh Market.

No further details were available. ETSU is amid a capital campaign for the arts initiative, including a $38 million performing arts center.

Expecting a $28.5 million allocation from the state, the ETSU Arts Initiative began fundraising efforts in earnest last year, reaching more than $5.8 million of its $9.5 million goal at present. The center's state capital funding, however, did not make Gov. Bill Haslam's 2014-15 budget proposal.
