Johnson City definitely needs to have a corridor study completed in order to ensure the best use for the General Mills property. If Evolve is threatening to pull out if this is not approved immediately, then let them pull out. This is far too important for the East Tennessee State University and downtown communities to rush into anything.
Aside from student housing, any rent-by-the-room living arrangement is known as a boarding house, not multi-family. We cannot let the city suffer by following a bad decision with another, solely to get this property off the Chamber’s hands. Another entity will come forward and make this a fantastic property for all people in Johnson City.
