ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton School System's fleet of school buses was severely vandalized sometime over the weekend, preventing drivers from picking up students this morning.
Director of Schools Ed Alexander said the vandalism included slashed tires to sugar in the diesel fuel tanks.
Police were at the bus lot adjacent to Elizabethton High School investigating.
Schools remained on regular schedule. Principals were instructed to note absentees among bus riders.
Alexander was trying to work out an arrangement with a neighboring system for possible alternative transportation while the administration copes with repairs.
