Police: North Carolina man sold undercover cop crack next to Johnson City elementary school

Devin Hunter

An undercover detective bought crack cocaine from a North Carolina man near an elementary school in Johnson City on Wednesday, and the man received more charges when he concealed additional drugs in his body as he entered jail, police said in a report.

Devin Hunter, 24, Greensboro, N.C., was arrested after the detective bought the drugs from him about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at 116 E. Chilhowie Ave., which is across the street from North Side Elementary School. Hunter gave the detective four crack rocks in exchange for $200, police said.

He was charged with manufacturing/delivery/sale of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and violation of the drug free school zone law.

Hunter was booked into the Washington County Detention Center, where jailers found another 7 grams of crack hidden in his "anal area," police said. He picked up additional charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.

Hunter was held on $40,000 bond and arraigned Friday in Sessions Court.
