Purse with $1,800 in cash reported stolen from Elizabethton Walmart

ELIZABETHTON — A woman reported her purse containing cash, credit cards and other items was stolen when she walked away from it while at Walmart on New Years Eve.

Brenda Merritt, West Palmetto, Fla., told Elizabethton Police Department patrolman James Sexton that the purse contained $1,800 in cash, credit cards, gift certificates, a pair of eyeglasses, insulin, a wallet, a checkbook and Florida driver's license.

Sexton said Walmart's security cameras revealed that Merritt had pushed her shopping cart next to the Red Box movie vending machine at the front entrance and walked out the door, leaving the purse. A woman in a pink sweatshirt is shown taking the purse.
