Johnson City man flees traffic stop, goes home

A Johnson City man pulled over by police for speeding drove away from the traffic stop and nearly hit an officer as he fled, according to a Johnson City Police Department press release.

Daniel Honeycutt, 58, 508 Glendale Rd. was arrested at his home a short time after the traffic stop, police said. He was charged with felony evading arrest, three counts of felony reckless endangerment, speeding, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

The incident started when officers pulled Honeycutt over just after 2 a.m. on North Roan Street near Interstate 26. Officers approached the vehicle, which also had two passengers inside, and began talking to Honeycutt, police said.

At some point, Honeycutt began revving his engine. Officers ordered him to turn off the vehicle and attempted to reach insides to get the keys. At that point, Honeycutt accelerated and nearly hit an officer.

Following a short vehicle pursuit and foot chase, Honeycutt was apprehended at his residence.

He’s being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $41,000 bond and will be arraigned in General Sessions Court Thursday.
