Fake door-to-door salesman charged with assault

A Kingsport man charged with aggravated assault after allegedly hitting his girlfriend on the head with an iron on Christmas Eve may also have scammed people by presenting himself as a door-to-door salesman, according to police.

Timothy D. English Jr., 33, of 336 Sewanee Ave., is listed by Kingsport police as a suspect in the incidents. Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton says English is a former employee of a company out of Florida, peddling a product dubbed "Advantage, the Wonder Cleaner."

Patton says English's employment with that company has been terminated. But he allegedly continued visiting Kingsport homes and taking orders and payments with no intention or means of providing the product.
