Update: Police release name of woman who fatally shot herself in car in north Johnson City

Update: Johnson City police released the name of a woman who died from a self-inflicted gunshot Monday. Taylor E. Peters, 24, 103 Hemlock Lane, Johnson City. She shot herself in the head while sitting inside her car at the intersection of Timberlake Road and Mountainview Road.

Police found Peters inside the car with a 9mm assault rifle, according to the official police report on the incident.

Officers were dispatched to the apartments on the corner of East Mountainview and Timberlake roads at around 8 p.m., in reference to someone threatening suicide.

According to the report, the incident began with a 911 call about a woman armed with a gun at 3500 Timberlake Road, Apt. 44. The caller reported that as she came home, she found a woman she knew sitting outside the apartment and threatening to kill herself. The caller left the area and called 911.

As police searched the area, they heard what sounded like a small-caliber gunshot in the direction of Timberlake Road followed by a woman — later identified as Peters' mother —  screaming, "She's shot herself!"

At the intersection, they found Peters, who had shot herself in the head in a Silver Audi sedan. Parker said she was alone in the car, and was still alive as of around 9 p.m., as she was taken to an area hospital. She was later pronounced dead.

About 2 p.m. Monday, police had been called to the same apartment on a domestic situation involving the same women. No report was filed on that call.
