GREENVILLE — Rescue crews in East Tennessee are trying to rescue a hiker stranded on a ledge near Margarette Falls.
The Greenville Sun reports Greene and Washington county rescue squads tried to reach the person overnight, but weren't
Bucky Ayers of the Greene County Rescue Squad told the newspaper that it became unsafe for rescuers to climb and it was too windy to get a helicopter to the climber's position.
He said local officials are working with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to try to bring in a military helicopter to the area on Friday to rescue the person.
The climber was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, but was able to build a fire during the night, he said.
"That's pretty much all we know," Ayers said.
A second hiker fell from the ledge Thursday and was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
