Jonesborough man airlifted to hospital following motorcycle, Jeep collision on Tenn. Highway 81 South

A Jonesborough man was airlifted to a local hospital Thursday evening after he was hit on his motorcycle by a motorist on Tenn. Highway 81 South.

According to Sgt. Lee Cross with Washington County Sheriff’s Office, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Fred Coffey, 78, of Jonesborough, pulled off of Tenn. Highway 107 onto Tenn. 81 and pulled in front of a motorcycle traveling northbound.

The driver of the motorcycle, Jamie Casey, 39, was airlifted following the crash to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of lower extremity injuries, particularly in the leg and pelvic areas.

Cross said Casey’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Coffey was reportedly issued a citation for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, but Cross said speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
