Lt. Mitchual Perry and Sgt. Shaun Miller
Chief Mark Sirois is pleased to announce two promotions within the Police Department effective November 30.
“The retirement of a veteran patrol lieutenant provided the opportunity for advancement for two officers in the department”, said Chief Sirois “After an intensive promotional process, these two officers placed themselves in a position to enhance their careers and further their service to the citizens of Johnson City.” The promotional process consists of a written test, job-specific written exercises, and an assessment/interview.
Points are awarded for education level and the candidate’s work history is evaluated.
“The Johnson City Police Department has many dedicated and qualified candidates who participate in our promotion process”, Chief Sirois said. “One objective of the Police Department is to build the best management team possible and deliver outstanding law enforcement services for our citizens. I commend each of these officers for their dedication, hard work and commitment to the Department’s partnership with the community.”
The officers, their new ranks, and brief biographical sketches follow:
Lt. Mitchual Perry – Lt. Perry has over thirty years of law enforcement experience. He most recently served as a sergeant on the Department’s community policing unit. Lt. Perry has been employed with the Department since 1991, serving as a public safety officer, field training officer, patrol sergeant and community policing sergeant. Before joining the Johnson City Police Department, Lt. Perry served with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, the East Tennessee State University Police Department and the Goodlettsville Tennessee Police Department. Lt. Perry holds an Associate of Science degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University. Lt. Perry is a graduate of the Southeast Command and Leadership Academy at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, where he received the academic award. Lt. Perry will serve in the Operations Division (Patrol) as a platoon assistant watch commander.
Sgt. Shaun Miller – Sgt. Miller is a nine year veteran of the Police Department, having served as a police officer on patrol, as a police officer on the Department’s Power Shift and criminal investigator on the Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit. In addition, Sgt. Miller has served a member on the Department’s Honor Guard for five years. Sgt. Miller holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University. Sgt. Miller will serve in the Operations Division (Patrol) as a platoon sergeant.
