The Jonesborough Novelty Band does more than just entertain the masses with fun music and audience interaction. Each year the musical group, made up of area residents, hosts benefit concerts throughout the community with all proceeds going toward a local organization.
This year, the Jonesborough Novelty Band has teamed up with the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre to hold a benefit concert Friday at 7 p.m. at the Theatre’s new box office, the Stage Door, located just beside the entrance of the JRT along Main Street in downtown Historic Jonesborough.
Admission is by donation only with proceeds to benefit the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre.
The JRT values live theatre as an entertaining and educational event providing a unique opportunity for audiences and artists to share experiences that can be enjoyable, uplifting and thought-provoking. The local Theatre is dedicated to being a nurturing environment for seasoned and developing artists.
During the event, the Theatre will debut its newest program including Birthday Storybook Characters available for parties and events. Characters that will be in attendance that night will include Cinderella, Belle from “Beauty and the Beast,” Captain America, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Spiderman, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Prince Charming.
The Jonesborough Novelty Band uses banjo, piano, guitar, upright bass and spontaneous personalities to lead the crowd into everyone’s favorite sing-along songs. Band members are Terry Countermine, Sam Burke, Mark Calliham and Brett McClosky, local favorites who are well-known for their community involvement at events and fundraisers.
