Update: Name released of teen killed in early morning Johnson City crash

Johnson City police have released the name of a 19-year man killed in a crash early this morning on Carroll Creek Road.

Sidney B. Crandall, 2607 Brownsmill Road, Apt. 7, was killed when he was ejected from his 1998 Jeep Cherokee on Carroll Creek.

Police said the Jeep left the road in a curve and overturned at least once near the intersection with Emerald Chase Boulevard. Crandall was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the Jeep, 19-year-old Ronald C. Lowe, of Johnson City, was not injured in the wreck according to a crash report. Lowe was also not wearing a seat belt, but was not ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.

Speed and alcohol use appeared to be factors in the crash, police said. The investigation was being continued by the Johnson City Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.
