Former Scoutmaster, corrections officer sentenced for child sex crimes

BLOUNTVILLE — A former Sullivan County Sheriff's Office corrections sergeant and local Boy Scouts leader will serve five years in prison for sex crimes against children, followed by 15 years of probation.

Randy Hass, 48, of Kingsport, was sentenced Thursday afternoon. Sullivan County Assistant District Attorney William Harper reports that in August Hass pleaded guilty to 27 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of official misconduct.

Hass was indicted in November of 2011 by a Sullivan County grand jury. He was terminated from his employment at the Sheriff's Office seven months prior — and less than 24 hours after the department launched an internal investigation into allegations against him.
