Fire ripped through the second story of a house in Gray on Monday afternoon.

The fire caused a gaping hole and burned siding to the west-facing side of the brick residence at 365 Boonesboro Road, just off Shadden Road. No injuries were reported.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy B.W. McKinney said the homeowner was at work at the time of the call, which came in at 2:43 p.m. McKinney said the cause of the fire remained unknown.

He said the Gray Volunteer Fire Department was the first to respond and was joined in the effort by departments from Fall Branch, Johnson City and Sulphur Springs.

The departments worked off ladders from the front yard through the hole in the second story of the house.
