Two men arrested late Sunday night on armed robbery charges told investigators they were cheated out of money during a poker game at the home they’re accused of invading at gunpoint, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said.

It happened at 230 Pickens Bridge Road, where at least 15 people were gathered throughout the house. Court records said the two intruders — Jamie Lynn Silvers, 49, and Nathan Allan Silvers, 37, both of 124 Sevilla Road, Flag Pond — told investigators they had previously been cheated out of money while playing poker at that residence.

It was not clear when that alleged incident took place.

Both men are charged with four counts of armed robbery, 11 counts of attempted armed robbery and 15 counts of reckless endangerment. Jamie Silvers also now has a DUI charge in Sullivan County.

Court records said the Silvers brothers apparently discussed robbing the residence and others at a time they knew people would be there playing poker.

Graybeal said all the details about the incident are not yet documented, so he could not say if there was or was not a poker game going on at the time of the robbery.

Investigator Jared Taylor wrote in a court affidavit that the Silvers retrieved long guns from their own residence, went to Walmart to purchase ski masks and then went to the PIckens Bridge Road residence.

They went inside, held the residence owner at gunpoint and ordered 14 others to lie on the floor, the affadavit said.

Graybeal said one of the men discharged his weapon into the floor.

The Silverses are accused of demanding money from the victims as well as taking watches, wallets, a shotgun and several phones.

The robbers fled with more than $2,000 in cash, a wallet, two watches, a victim’s shotgun and at least two iPhones.

The men left in a vehicle, which someone in the house apparently had a description of, and were apprehended a short time later by Sullivan County sheriff’s deputies and Bristol police on Volunteer Parkway in Bristol.

Officers making the arrest found property belonging to the victims at the Pickens Bridge Road home, Graybeal said.

He said quick action on the part of his officers aided in other agencies being able to quickly apprehend the suspects.

“We were very close — Lt. (Eddie) Graybeal was running radar on Highway 36,” and responded to the scene quickly with another officer, the sheriff said.

The sheriff said warrants written for Jamie Silvers on the same counts and offenses, and he would be transferred to the Washington County Detention Center upon his release from the Sullivan County Jail.

Nathan Silvers is jailed in the Detention Center on $50,000 bond.

An earlier version of the story below

A chase resulted in the arrests of two Unicoi County men Sunday night after they invaded a Boones Creek residence while armed with shotguns and stole $2,000 in cash, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said today.

Jamie L. Silvers, 49, 4435 Old Asheville Hwy., Flag Pond, and Nathan Silvers, 37, 2183 Rice Creek Rd, Flag Pond, were arrested following the incident that began at 230 Pickens Bridge Road.

Graybeal said victims told deputies two men wearing black ski masks forced their way into the residence while carrying shotguns. The men demanded money, and one fired a shot into the floor.

The robbers fled with more than $2,000 in cash, a wallet, two watches, a victim’s shotgun and two iPhones.

The sheriff said deputies brought in a police dog and discovered where the robbers had parked and also recovered a ski mask. Witnesses described the getaway vehicle, and deputies broadcast the description to law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area.

A short time later, a Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted the vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 11E toward Bristol. The deputy stopped the vehicle after a short chase with the assistance of the Bristol Police Department.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office took Jamie Silvers into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. The Washington County Sheriff's Office took Nathan Silvers into custody, charing him with four counts of armed robbery, 11 counts of attempted armed robbery and 15 counts of reckless endangerment.

Graybeal said warrants written for Jamie Silvers on the same counts and offenses, and he would be transferred to the Washington County Detention Center upon his release from the Sullivan County Jail.

Nathan Silvers jailed in the Detention Center on $50,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
