ELIZABETHTON –– A Watauga man was arrested Monday on charges stemming from a domestic violence incident.
Jacob Michael Buchanan, 26, 115 Elmer Moffitt Road, Watauga, was arrested by Deputy Sarah McWhirter of the Carter County Sheriff's Department on a charge of aggravated assault.
McWhirter said she was dispatched to the sheriff's department on Oct. 9 to talk with a woman who said she had been assaulted. McWhirter said the woman said Buchanan was her boyfriend and had been drinking.
During a disagreement, the woman said Buchanan threw her into a recliner, choked her, threw her over a table, dragged her down the hall by her hair and punched her several times. She said he took her cell phone away from her and broke it so she could not call for help.
McWhirter said the woman's injuries were very noticeable, with scratches, bruises and cuts to her face and a swollen lip.
McWhirter went to the residence, where she reported finding a broken table, shattered glass, and a piece of a broken cell phone.
Buchanan is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Nov. 15.
