Tevin Mantez Harris, aka Tevin “Turk” Harris
NASHVILLE — A man wanted for killing another man in Middle Tennessee was captured early this morning, just days after his addition to Tennessee's Most Wanted list.
Tevin Mantez Harris, aka Tevin “Turk” Harris, was wanted by the Springfield Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The TBI said in a news release that on Sunday, Harris got into an argument with the victim, Thomas D. Smith, and later pulled a handgun and shot Smith. Smith died of his injuries at a hospital.
About 12:45 a.m. today, Harris was found by Springfield police and TBI agents at a residence on Grace Street in Springfield. Harris barricaded himself in the basement and after several attempts at negotiations for him to surrender failed, officers sent pepper gas into the basement. Harris was taken into custody shortly afterward as he tried to escape the gas in the basement.
Springfield police charged Harris with first degree murder. He was also wanted for an unrelated charge of aggravated assault. Harris was held at the Robertson County jail pending a court hearing.
