Police: Man used razor blade in shoplifting electronics from Johnson City Walmart

Andrew E. Coefer

A Johnson City man used a razor blade to cut plastic wrap from electronics at a local Walmart in an attempt to steal them, police said Friday in a news release.

Andrew E. Coefer, 32, 2052 Old Bristol Hwy., was arrested Thursday and charged with shoplifting over $500.

The incident occurred at the Walmart at 3111 Browns Mill Road, where loss prevention employees told police Coefer removed several items from the electronics department and then proceeded to other parts of the store. Coefer then used a razor blade to cut the plastic wrapping off the items and conceal them. The staff escorted Coefer to the loss prevention office and contacted police.

Police said the items were worth a total of $572.50.

Coefer was held in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond and arraigned Friday in Sessions Court.
