On Saturday, Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park will be hosting its 8th annual Mountain Melodies music festival. Sponsored by Pioneer Friends Group, a nonprofit organization made up of dedicated and concerned citizens to help educate the public on our Appalachian heritage, natural resources and bringing people and nature together as one, this event showcases local musicians in the traditional mountain styles of Appalachian music and bluegrass music for all visitors to enjoy.
“We always have a good turn out for this event so please continue to come out and support your local musicians and your Tennessee State Parks,” said Park Ranger Dawn Elberbawy.
The bands will begin at 11 a.m. and play until 5 p.m. The bands include Ol’ Timers, Harlan County Grass, Bob & Homer & the Bluegrass Boys, The Jeters and Lonesome Pine.
The bands will be playing at the campground shelter located in the campground area to your immediate right as you enter the park. This is a free event, although donations are welcomed.
There will be seating, but bring camp chairs and blankets if you wish, or make it a weekend and bring your camper. Pets are welcomed, but must be on a leash. Food vendors will be available.
