House guest accused of stealing from Johnson City residence

A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on a charge that he stole from a friend's residence in Johnson City while staying there last year.

Anthony Gibson, no address available, was charged with theft over $1,000.

Police said Gibson committed a similar theft in Sullivan County shortly after the Johnson City incident and left some of the property taken from the first victim behind.

That property was recovered by the victim, and police obtained warrants for Gibson’s arrest.  Police could not find him until he was arrested on unrelated charges in July of 2012.

Gibson was taken to Washington County General Sessions Court, where the arrest warrant was served and he was arraigned on the theft charges before being transported back to Hawkins County. His next court appearance was pending in Washington County Criminal Court.
