The Tennessee Department of Education recently announced its Teacher of the Year awards, in a program to recognize outstanding teachers and promote appreciation of teachers in Tennessee schools.
In a press release from the Education Department, it was noted that three Washington County teachers were awarded for their efforts in education.
The local winners were Erin Eberhart, Leanne Sanders and Nathan Gouge.
Eberhart, a kindergarten teacher at Sulphur Springs School, won the System Level Teacher of the Year award for 2013-14 in the PreK-Grade 4 category. Sanders won the System Level Teacher of the Year award for 2013-14 in the Grades 5-8 category, as a seventh-grade mathematics teacher at Boones Creek Middle School. The System Level Teacher of the Year award for 2013-14 in the Grades 9-12 category was Nathan Gouge, a United States history teacher at Daniel Boone High School.
The Washington County Department of Education congratulated the local winners, and said it was proud to have them as part of the team.
