ELIZABETHTON — A Carter County man reported the theft of $10,000 in cash from his Russell Hill Road home over the weekend.
Johnny Ray Greenwell reported the theft to Lt. Keith Range of the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He said the cash was in $100 bills.
The theft was discovered on Saturday afternoon. Greenwell said the front window the residence had been broken out. His bedroom had also been ransacked. Greenwell said he had placed the cash in a pocket of a suit jacket. The burglar had taken clothes from the closet and they were laying in a pile on the floor. Nothing else in the house was found to be missing.
Lt. Tim Horne is investigating the burglary.
