WJHL announces retransmission consent contract with DISH expired Monday night

WJHL TV News Channel 11, a Media General CBS affiliate, today announced that its current retransmission consent contract with DISH expired on September 30 at midnight (ET). Since a new retransmission consent contract was not reached, by law, DISH cannot carry certain local television stations owned, operated, or serviced by Media General Inc. on its satellite system.

"Our television station has been an important part of this community for 60 years, and it is unfortunate that DISH does not recognize our fair market value," said General Manager Dan Cates. "We understand how frustrating this is for WJHL viewers who are Dish subscribers. We continue to do everything we can to negotiate a fair, market-based agreement for Dish to carry our station. Viewers may continue to watch their local news, lifestyle and sports programs, as well as top-rated prime time and syndicated programming, over-the-air via antenna or by switching to an alternative pay-TV service provider, including Charter or DirecTV in the Tri-Cities area. News and weather alerts are also available via mobile apps.”

All WJHL newscasts are live streamed on www.wjhl.com.
