Deputies seize 80 marijuana plants in S.W. Virginia field

DAMASCUS, Va. — An anonymous tip led Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies to seize 80 marijuana plants, Sheriff Fred Newman announced Thursday in a news release.

The tip led deputies to a  location in the Konnarock area of the
county in a field just off U.S. Route 58, also known as Jeb Stuart Highway, east of Damascus. Newman said the plants averaged 4 feet to 5 feet high and had an estimated value of $80,000.

The Sheriff's Office staff removed the plants from the field, and deputies were working to develop a
suspect.

The Virginia State Police also assisted in the seizure.
