New health care bill by Congressman Roe being touted as alternative to Obamacare

U.S. Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., will submit to Congress on Wednesday an alternative health-care plan in direct opposition to President Barack Obama’s Affordable Health Care Act which he says includes sensible coverage at lower costs without mandates and tax increases.

The former Johnson City Mayor heads the Republican Study Committee Health Care Working Group, a committee charged with coming up with a health care plan to replace what is commonly known as Obamacare. Roe, and his conservative cohorts, have dubbed the alternative the Healthcare Flexibility and Choices for Families Act, a plan to fully repeal the ACA and offer to Americans “pro-patient reforms rooted in free markets, competition and individual choice.”

“The policies detailed in our plan will serve as the foundation for conservative reform and can be built upon as part of a prolonged counter-offensive against the progressive vision of health care,” Roe said Tuesday. “In the near term, we should improve upon the health care system that was in place pre ACA, as part of our promise to Americans that they can maintain insurance products similar to what they currently enjoy.”

The bill is 200 pages compared to the Affordable Care Act’s 2,700 pages. For more details on the Healthcare Flexibility and Choices for Families Act, check back on JohnsonCityPress.com.
