KINGSPORT — Kingsport crash reconstructionists said one vehicle was traveling 104 mph when it struck an SUV, causing a fiery crash on Fort Henry Drive and claiming one life, the Kingsport Police Department said today.
The head-on collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. KPD said a dark colored Acura was traveling north on Fort Henry Drive. Crash reconstructionists with the KPD Traffic Unit calculated the Acura was traveling 104 mph when it crossed the center line and struck a blue Ford Expedition head on. The Expedition was traveling at 35 mph.
Shortly after impact, both vehicles burst into flames.
The driver of the Acura died and KPD said it will not release the identity of the person driving pending notification of relatives. There were three people in the Expedition; Walter T. Bellamy, Angela K. Bellamy and Colton S. Bellamy. All three are listed in critical condition.A Johnson City man was one of two people who pulled victims from the burning wreckage.
