Barnard, Boone win Cherokee Classic for second consecutive year

Daniel Boone junior Adam Barnard won the Cherokee Classic cross country meet for the second year in a row, helping the Trailblazers defend their team title at the event on Saturday at Sequoyah Park in Knoxville.
Barnard crossed the line in 15:34 to win the race. Boone beat Oak Ridge 59-89 for the title in the 50-team field. The Lady Trailblazers finished 11th and were led by Grayson Loyd.
James Garst was the next finisher for Boone, placing fourth in 16:10. Josh Routh was 12th in 16:27 and Caleb Cutshall finished 21st in 16:56. Rounding out the scoring for the ’Blazers were Mitch Bronstetter, Ashton Wilson and Jacob Garst.
In the girls’ race, Loyd clocked 21:44 and was joined by Heather Hayes, Bailey Graham, Sierra Hanson, Makayla Shaw, Kayla Hodan and Keleigh Engle.
