Kingsport police: Man charged with attempted murder from local stabbing arrested in Kentucky

Michael D. Ford II

KINGSPORT — Police today announced the arrest in Kentucky of a man accused of trying to kill a woman in a stabbing and kidnapping case in Kingsport earlier this month.

About 11:45 a.m., Michael D. Ford II, 38, 304 Kincaid St., surrendered to the Kentucky State Police at a gas station in London, Ky.

He was held at the Whitley County, Ky., Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Kingsport. He was charged with attempted 1st degree murder, especially aggravated kidnapping and especially aggravated robbery.

About 3:15 on Sept. 1, Kingsport police were called to 1338 Holyoke St. in reference to a stabbing incident. Police said Ford went to the residence and asked the victim, Carolyn Morris, to borrow some money for gas. Ford and Morris were acquaintances, so she invited him in and gave him a small amount of money.

Police said Ford became enraged by the small amount and demanded that Morris give him all of her money. She tried to leave, but Ford closed the door and prevented her from leaving. When she tried to escape through the rear of the house via the kitchen, Ford stabbed her several times in the neck and arm.

Morris suffered from multiple lacerations and was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center's Emergency Room for treatment.
