KINGSPORT — Authorities are investigating a Tuesday morning blaze at a Kingsport house, where firefighters located a woman and her young child trapped inside the structure.
The pair were pulled from the residence and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Kingsport police say the child later died.
The incident occurred at 1009 Rosetree Lane. Kingsport Fire Department Deputy Chief David Chase says a passerby spotted the fire and called 911 at 10:09 a.m.
Fire engines arrived in less than five minutes, according to Chase, finding flames through approximately 30 percent of the home. A group of firefighters entered through a rear entrance with a hose, while a second team entered through the front to conduct a search.
