Thomas helps Cyclones cruise past Patriots

ELIZABETHTON — Ethan Thomas continued to run roughshod for the Cyclones.
Thomas had seven carries for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Elizabethton won its Three Rivers Conference opener 49-0 over Sullivan East on Friday night at Rider Field.
Christian Glover had five carries for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Jeremiah Turner ran five times for 61 yards and a score.
Caleb Bailey went 5-for-7 for 58 yards and ran in a score. Caleb Armstrong threw a 49 yard pass to Markus Olds for another Cyclones touchdown.

INDEPENDENCE, Va. — Patrick South rushed for 121 yards and Jordan Grubb scored a pair of touchdowns as the Longhorns beat the Blue Devils.
South also ran in a score, while Grubb ran for 98 yards on 18 carrries. Greg Roark had five catches for 115 yards and a TD.
Johnson County quarterback Warren Kerley went 7-for-12 and tossed the scoring pass to Roark.

ELIZABETHTON — Bulldogs quarterback Coby Jones ran for two scores and passed for two more. Dylan Ford had two scoring receptions, including an 81-yarder, and made a 45-yard interception return.
Unaka got its first points of the season on a 47-yard TD toss from Eli Rasnick to Bobby Davenport with 8:57 to play.

COSBY — Colby Birchfield and Austin Whitehead both rushed for over 100 yards and the Highlanders improved to 3-0 with the win.
Whitehead ran for two touchdowns and connected with Zac Benfield on a TD pass. Birchfield also scored a rushing touchdown.
Cloudland also benefitted from a safety after Cosby’s QB was called for intentional grounding in the end zone.

KINGSPORT — Deshaune Gaines ran in the game-winning touchdown and the Eagles held the Rebels scoreless in the second half for the win.
Tri-Cities trailed 14-0 at the half, but Evan Blankenship, who had 17 carries for 94 yards, ran in a touchdown from two yards out, and Jonas Schenderlein kicked a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter. Gaines ran 14 yards for the game-winner in the fourth quarter.
South Greene’s scores came in the first and second quarters. Austin Hoyle recovered a fumble in the end zone and Tim Lightfoot ran in from 10 yards outs.

KINGSPORT — Zack Casey accounted for over 150 yards and three touchdowns as the Indians beat the Falcons in Big Seven Conference play.
Casey had six carries for 100 yards and two catches for 54 yards. He ran in one TD from 53 yards out and both of his catches were for scores.
Josh Holt, who carried seven times for 58 yards, threw for 67 of D-B’s 104 passing yards. He also ran in a touchdown and connected with Casey on a 21-yard pass for a score.
Skylar East threw 34 yards to Casey for another TD. Colton Ketron and Cole Maupin both added rushing touchdowns for the Indians.
