ERWIN - No charges will be paced in the Wednesday afternoon report of a home invasion robbery of a Martin Creek Road residence that turned out to be false.
About 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police received the report that two men had entered a residence on Martin Creek Road and had stolen the purse and medications of the elderly female resident.
The report led local police to initiate a search of the area for the suspects and prompted the lock down of several nearby Unicoi County schools. Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said Wednesday that officials learned the robbery did not happen after the items reported as stolen were found in the home.
Unicoi County Sheriff's Department Capt. Ron Arnold said Thursday the woman living at the Martin Creek Road residence, who made the report of the robbery, will not be charged with filing a false report due to the "medical condition of the complainant." Arnold said the woman's son, who corroborated his mother's report when investigators spoke with him, "misunderstood" what he was being asked, as he was in the middle of a dental procedure when contacted by officials.
The lockdown of the nearby schools on Wednesday was lifted after less than an hour.
