Milligan Highway standoff results in arrest

ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton Police Department took a man into custody Thursday morning after he reportedly barricaded himself into his apartment and allegedly tried to harm himself.

Capt. Joy Markland, chief of the Criminal Investigation Division, said police  responded to the 8 a.m. incident, secured the area and began trying to make contact with the man.

The officers were told that the man was a tenant in one of the apartments had become upset and had vandalized several items in the home and had also made comments about trying to harm himself.

Markland said the standoff finally ended when Jonathan Ryan Taylor, 21, 1484 Milligan Hwy., Apt. 21, left his room and was taken into custody. Markland said no one was injured in the standoff and Taylor was charged with vandalism under the Domestic Violence Law.

Taylor is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Oct. 1.
